Too Many Guns

Well the cops came in with their pistols drawn
The bad guys cornered they jumped into the fray
But the bad guys had the bigger guns— so the good guys ducked
And retreated— ran away
They ran for cover from a lightning storm
They ran for cover to the old gun store
Where they grabbed some guns that could shoot some more
And their over-the-counter firepower
Could finally match what the bad guys had
So they took 'em down— yeah, it makes me mad to know
They had to go to the neighborhood store
To win their shooting war

Seems every day in another town someone is caught with their guard let down
Thank god for summer— we can all hang out
There's no schoolyard shootings when school is out
When our action heroes and our TV shows
Resolve their plots with violent blows
And our video games and our childhood toys
Convert our kids into soldier boys—

There's too many guns, there are too many guns
Killing too many daughters, shooting too many sons
There's too many guns….

Well the second amendment will keep me warm
It keeps me loaded and safe from harm
But it ain't King George who will do us in
The fire this time comes from within
And every time it's lit it makes front-page news
Then it disappears in a day or two
Another life gone and another life ruined
By over-the-counter firepower
That knows no color except for red
And if you don't look out it will leave you dead

There's too many guns, there are too many guns
Killing too many daughters, shooting too many sons
There's too many guns….
