This Is My Body
Every time I walk that line my ankle starts to ache
In winter when I hold my sign, my fingers feel like they're
gonna break
But I wouldn't think of giving up
No I won't be going or packing up
When they charged our line with bats and knives they broke
our legs and arms
Then their paid policemen dragged us off, charged conspiracy
to inflict harm
But the only beating done that day
Was by the company thugs who got away
Why we strike or why we're here is different for each
of us
But we've got our reasons and we hold them very dear
I haven't got much money, but I want to join the fight
with you
This is my body and I'll place my body here
There's many days and many struggles out there to be won
And every time we put a fire out, another one has just
begun
But we'll keep on going until we're through
It's the only thing we know to do
Why we strike or why we're here is different for each
of us
But we've got our reasons and we hold them very dear
I haven't got much money, but I want to join the fight
with you
This is my body and I'll place my body here
Everywhere we organize they cut our people down
Burned or shot or lynched at night, they fought 'til
they were in the ground
And for them I sing this victory song
And for the next group of bodies coming along
Why we strike or why we're here is different for each
of us
But we've got our reasons and they are so very clear
I haven't got much money, but I want to join the fight
with you
This is my body and I'll lay my body here
This is my body and my body's staying here
